Murdock & Searle’s American Fork, UT restorative dentistry practice offers several different options for tooth restorations, ranging from bridges, to partial dentures, to permanent dental implants.
Restorative dentistry involves the repair and replacement of damaged or missing teeth. With restorative dentistry, we can restore and rehabilitate your smile to meet both functional and aesthetic requirements, whatever your particular dental situation may be.
Some of our most popular restorative dentistry options are as follows:
Facts about dental bridges
A dental bridge is a realistic prosthetic we commonly recommend to replace one or two missing teeth. Learn about dental bridges to determine if this type of dental restoration is a good option for you.
- We recommend bridges to individuals with good dental hygiene – a lack of brushing and flossing will lead to problems with this kind of prosthetic.
- Our bridges are constructed out of high-quality dental porcelain that mimics the color and look of real teeth.
- Replacing a missing tooth with a bridge (or other type of prosthetic) helps keep other teeth from becoming misaligned, prevents plaque from accumulating in tooth gaps, and allows you to speak and eat with greater comfort.
- A traditional bridge requires the presence of a healthy tooth on either side of the gap to support the prosthesis.
Bridge, dentures, or implants?
When you have missing or badly damaged teeth, modern dentistry offers several options as to what kind of restoration you will use to replace the tooth.
For teeth badly that are damaged by decay but still restorable, a root canal followed by a crown is the ideal option. This way, you get to keep your tooth!
If you have missing teeth or teeth that are so badly decayed they need to be removed, you might consider a bridge, dentures, or implants. Bridges can replace as many as three missing teeth. If you have more than three missing teeth, a partial denture or full set of dentures may be a better solution.
If you have just one missing tooth, you may wish to get a dental implant, which is a permanent prosthesis that looks and functions just like your natural teeth. Some people might even opt for a full set of implants, if they are able to afford to do so, as dental implants are the most permanent and natural-looking tooth replacement option available.
Ultimately, the choice of whether to get a crown, bridge, denture, or implant is up to you. We will not push you to choose any particular option. Dentures are the most affordable option to replace multiple missing teeth, but they do not look as realistic or provide as much functionality as the other options. Nevertheless, today’s dentures are much more attractive and realistic-looking than dentures even 20 years ago.
